Canon Pixma MP980 Printer Review

The Canon MP980 inkjet all in one photo printer provides the ability to scan, copy, fax, print high quality text and realistic photographs. All of these features make it a perfect choice for small businesses. It produces black prints at up to 26 pages per minute, colors at up to 21 pages per minute, and a 4×6 color photo in only 20 seconds. The Pixma MP980 also makes copies at 2.5 seconds per page up to 3.2 seconds. At approximately $300-$350, this unit is worth every penny.

Compatible with Windows and Mac, the Canon MP908 can print from a memory card, a Bluetooth module, a digital camera and even a camera phone. It has a 3×5” LCD display on the top of the inkjet unit allowing consumers to view photos before printing. All color photos are printed with 9600x2400dpi resolution and black prints are 600x600dpi. It scans at a resolution of 4800×9600. The scanner option also has a built in film adapter which provides a backlight so you can scan slides and negatives.

The 6 color printer ink system, including a unique gray shade, is offered exclusively by Canon and designed to give black and white photos a more professional look. The Canon MP980 ink cartridges are sold individually, cutting cost on replacements. The nozzle engineering commonly found in inkjet photo printers uses small droplets of ink to create a precise and near flawless picture. The Canon mP980 ink cartridges are placed in individual slots and ejected by the 6,144 nozzles found in this unit.

There are white LED lamps with high luminance saving energy by automatically switching to a standby mode when not in use. This and the individual replacements of Pixma MP980 ink cartridges are two examples of the Generation Green campaign set up to provide a more environmentally friendly way to use these products. It also has double side printing and an auto duplex which saves paper and time. It weighs almost 24 pounds which is on the heavier side, but has a used friendly scroll wheel making it simple to navigate through.

In general, consumers are satisfied with the Canon MP908, but experts tend to prefer the HP Photosmart All in one unit based on the output speed, complicated wireless set up and price. This printer has everything a small business could need, and is a good match for home users. It prints clear and durable photos and offers an array of features which eliminates the need for other electronic devices.
